Former England fast bowler Steven Finn has rated Jasprit Bumrah ahead of Jofra Archer in terms of reading the situation. Finn hailed Archer for hitting the ground running after coming back to action following a long hiatus due to injury.
Archer has picked six wickets in five matches of the ongoing T20 World Cup whereas Bumrah has scalped five wickets in three games.
Archer returned with figures of 1-34 against the West Indies in the team’s Super 8 opener at St. Lucia on Wednesday. The right-arm pacer bowled a terrific 16th over against Nicholas Pooran, conceding only four runs and also dismissing the left-hander.
Speaking to Daily Mail, Finn said, “The reason I love Jofra Archer is that he can spend however long out on the sidelines, then come in and hit the ground running, making it look as though he’s never been away. Jasprit Bumrah is a bit of a freak and the best in the world, but I’d say Jofra is behind him for his ability to read the situations.”
On the other hand, Bumrah returned with impressive figures of 2-6 against Ireland whereas registered figures of 3-14 against arch-rivals Pakistan. He was awarded Player of the Match in both of these games.
The former lanky pacer, Finn, feels England would be feeling confident after making it to the Super 8 stage after suffering a big loss against Australia.
“I actually think that they’ll be feeling quite confident at the moment. The manner in which they’ve beaten the two associate nations in the last couple of games has allowed them to reconnect with what actually makes them a good team. Defeat against Australia has served as a scare to them, but I don’t think that to win world tournaments you necessarily want to be playing your best cricket all the way through.”
England registered a convincing eight-wicket win against the West Indies in the Super 8 stage after Phil Salt scored a match-winning knock of 87 runs off 47 balls in the run-chase of 181.
