Legendary Sunil Gavaskar has put his weight behind talisman Virat Kohli to come good in the ongoing T20 World Cup. Kohli has returned with scores of 1, 4, and 0 in the first three matches of the T20 World Cup and could not deliver the goods in New York.
However, Virat Kohli was once again at his absolute best for RCB, scoring 741 runs in 15 innings at an average of 61.75 and a strike rate of 154.69 in IPL 2024. The right-hander also ended as the highest run-getter of the tournament.
Kohli has got all the experience under his belt and he would want to deliver the goods for the Indian team.
Speaking to Star Sports, “These are early days in the tournament, there’s still a lot of the tournament to go. Suddenly everything can’t go wrong just because the man has got three low scores. It doesn’t mean that he is not batting well. Sometimes you get a good delivery. Nothing to worry about.”
The Little Master said we have to show faith in Virat Kohli as the veteran has delivered time and again for the national team.
“When you’re playing for any team, when you’re playing for your country, there’s no greater motivation. He has done so well for India over the years. He has performed well in so many matches. Basically, we have to show faith in him. He has enough faith in himself. We must believe that he will come good sooner than later.”
Kohli has been a consistent performer over the years in all three formats of the game and he will want to be at his absolute best in the Super 8 stage.
India will begin their Super 8 campaign against Afghanistan at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados on Thursday.
