India’s in-form opening batter Abhishek Sharma is doubtful for the match against Namibia as he is yet to recover from a stomach upset. According to reports, Sharma has been admitted to the hospital and he could be replaced by Sanju Samson at the top of the order.

Abhishek was dismissed for a golden duck against the USA but had scored 182 runs in five matches against New Zealand at a strike rate of almost 250.

On the other hand, Sanju Samson had struggled to find any kind of impetus against the Kiwis, managing only 46 runs in five games at an average of 9.20. But the Kerala batter can get his chance against Namibia and he would look to grab it with both hands.

“Abhi [Abhishek Sharma] has still got a few issues with his tummy, we hope that he’ll be available for the game,” ten Doeschate said in the press conference on Tuesday.

Abhishek did not attend the team’s practice on Tuesday in Delhi. India would ideally want Abhishek to recover in time before the high octane clash against Pakistan, which would go on as planned.

Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah is available to bowl and also practiced with the team. Bumrah had missed the opening clash against the Americans as he was down with fever. 

In Bumrah’s absence, Mohammed Siraj got a chance in the starting XI and he returned with figures of 3-29 in his quota of four overs while making a comeback after a long hiatus. Siraj is expected to make way for Bumrah for the Namibia clash.

India will next take on Namibia at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on Thursday.
