India’s team management picked Jasprit Bumrah as the Impact Player after India registered a five-wicket win against the West Indies in the Super 8 clash of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026 at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Sunday.
Bumrah returned with impressive figures of 2-36 in his quota of four overs and played a key role in restricting the West Indies below 200. Barring going for 14 runs in the last over, Bumrah was right on the money. The gun fast bowler got the big wicket of in-form Shimron Hetmyer and also bamboozled Roston Chase with a slower delivery in the 12th over.
In fact, Bumrah could have had Chase when the latter was on just 14 but Abhishek Sharma dropped a simple catch.
India’s fielding coach T Dilip presented the Impact player medal to Bumrah. In the dressing room, Bumrah praised Shivam Dube and Tilak Varma for their vital contributions in the team’s win. While Dube played a cameo of 4-ball 8, Varma scored 27 runs off 15 balls.
Bumrah told BCCI.TV, “Special mention to Dube. The two fours he hit didn’t let the pressure come on to our team. Tilak also played a great knock. It’s not taking anything away from him. Come the big day, we ought to get together and hopefully do well in Mumbai.”
On the other hand, former Indian opener Kris Srikkanth picked Bumrah’s double wicket-over as the game-changing moment.
“Bumrah’s 12th over was the turning point of the match. Infact the match was over there. If he didn’t dismiss Hetmyer, West Indies could have got 215. That would have been psychological pressure on India,” said Srikkanth on his YouTube channel.
India will take on England in the second semifinal at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, on Thursday.
