Former Indian selector Saba Karim has lauded Rinku Singh after India won the three-match T20I series against Ireland by 2-0. The third and final T20I of the series at the Village, Dublin was abandoned without a ball being bowled on Wednesday due to rain.
Singh played a key role in India’s win of 33 runs in the second T20I against Ireland. The left-hander scored an unbeaten knock of 38 runs off just 21 balls with the help of two fours and three sixes and added the finishing touches. Ergo, India posted a par score of 185 runs on the board.
Singh had a terrific run in IPL 2023, scoring 474 runs in 14 matches at an average of 59.25 and a strike rate of 149.53. The southpaw scored a total of four fifties in the season and really impressed while batting in the middle order for KKR.
Singh hogged the limelight when he smashed five sixes in the final over against Yash Dayal to take KKR over the line.
“Rinku Singh’s transition from a domestic cricketer to an international cricketer – that for me is the find of this tour. Lots of positives here. Top of my mind, it has to be Rinku Singh – the way he has been able to understand the conditions and the demands of the international game,” said Karim while speaking to Jio Cinema.
Karim added it was good to see that Rinku Singh didn’t change his aggressive approach and batted with freedom.
“The way he was able to play such a stable innings, that is the way that he has played not only in IPL but also in domestic matches. Good to see that he did not need to change his game plan at all. Good to see not to see him flustered. And that is a huge positive for me,” said Karim.
Rinku Singh is also part of the Asian Games squad, which will be led by Ruturaj Gaikwad. The T20 tournament begins on September 19 and concludes on October 8.
