Mumbai Indians newly appointed head coach Kieron Pollard believes there is a lot more for Naman Dhir to learn and achieve. Pollard, who earlier, served as MI’s batting coach, has observed Dhir from close quarters in the last couple of seasons.
Dhir was recently given his maiden white-ball formats call-up as Washington Sundar’s replacement and he has grabbed his chance with both hands. The off-spinner impressed with the ball in the T20I series against the West Indies, taking five wickets in as many games.
Furthermore, Dhir scored an impressive knock of 42 runs off just 15 balls in the series opener against New Zealand. He backed it up with another fine cameo of 31 runs off just 17 balls in the second game.
“Naman has come a long way since he first joined Mumbai Indians in 2024. We saw the potential in him early on, and it has been encouraging to see how he has worked on his game, adapted to different roles and grown in confidence,” Pollard, recently appointed head coach of the franchise, told Cricbuzz.
The former West Indies all-rounder shed light on Dhir’s strengths as a player.
He added, “He is someone who wants to learn, listens to the people around him and is willing to put in the hard work. That is an important part of a player journey. At the same time, we must remember that Naman is only at the beginning of his career. There is a lot more for him to learn, experience and achieve.”
Dhir had earlier revealed how Kieron Pollard helps him in his batting and in maintaining mental conditioning.
He had earlier said, “I speak a lot with Pollard and he helps me a lot with my batting and mental conditioning. He always advises me to stay away from the outside noise.”
Dhir will be seen in action in the third T20I against New Zealand on Tuesday.
