Dindigul Dragons captain Hari Nishanth was delighted after his team convincingly defeated Idream Tiruppur Tamizhans by nine wickets at the NPR College Ground, Dindigul on Monday.
Nishanth decided to bowl first and they were able to restrict the opposition at 145-8.
M Silambrasan was the pick of the bowlers for DD as he scalped three wickets and conceded only 21 runs in his quota of four overs. Furthermore, Rangaraj Suthesh and Hari Nishanth scalped two wickets each.
On the other hand, K Vishal Vaidhya scored an unbeaten knock of 84 runs off just 57 balls to help his team get over the line comfortably. Vaidhya and Nishanth added 66 runs for the opening alliance to give a perfect platform to their team.
DD opener Vishal scored six fours and five sixes in his fine knock whereas Mani Bharathi also contributed with 38 runs in the chase.
Hari Nishanth said in the post-match presentation, “We are a happy side, because were spot on in the execution today. Not at all surprised with Vaidhya, we all know that he is made for bigger things. As a unit we thought that he would be more beneficial if he opens. Our bowlers had more belief (than me) on bowling first, so credit to them. My job is simple, if there are left-handers, I have to chip in with few overs. Silambarasan is doing great, we’re just giving him opportunity.”
Vishal Vaidhya was awarded the Player of the Match for his brilliant match-winning knock.
He said after the game, “I looked in good touch. Initially it was a bit slow, so I got used to the pace and then (played my shots). Captain, coach and myself had a chat, and they decided to give me the opening spot. (Whether he asked for the opening position), No, no, it was totally their call. There is a good connection with him (Nishanth), that’s helping in our partnership.”
On the other hand, M Mohammed reckons injury to their skipper Anirudha hurt them in the match. Anirudha was forced to retire hurt after scoring eight runs.
Mohammed said after the game, “The wicket was a bit damp early on and unfortunately, Anirudha’s injury hurt us. Also losing wickets at regular intervals was tough although we did finish well. Getting early wickets would have helped. Was a decent surface for fast bowlers, we should have bowled better. He (Anirudha) seems to be better. Should be fine for the next game.”
