Former Indian fast bowler Umesh Yadav showered praise on Mukul Choudhary after Lucknow Super Giants registered a thrilling three-wicket win at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on Thursday. LSG were down and out in the run chase of 182, but the youngster was able to turn a corner.
Choudhary scored a smashing knock of 54 runs off just 27 balls with the help of two fours and seven maximums, the most by a batter batting at number seven or below in IPL history.
The right-hander scored his runs at a strike rate of 200 and got LSG over the line when they needed 30 runs off the last two overs. Choudhary got off to a sedate start as he was two off eight balls, and it looked like the end of the chase for LSG, but the youngster had other ideas.
Yadav said the entire India will remember Mukul Choudhary’s name for a long time after this knock.
Umesh Yadav said on JioHotstar, “It seemed like KKR were on top in the game. The batting Mukul Choudhary showed, he said nothing is impossible, and he showed it by doing it. Such an exceptional knock and in such a situation, remember this name for sure. Entire India will remember his name for a long time. The way he batted was praiseworthy,” he said.
The former KKR bowler said Mukul Choudhary showed maturity in his knock as he took the game deep.
“He showed maturity. The performance he has done in domestic cricket, he came with that confidence and attitude that he would finish the game. In today’s cricket, you need that confidence the most. LSG showed that confidence in him,” Yadav observed.
Yadav said Choudhary took the risk of playing all the deliveries from the 16th over onwards.
“It’s not like he had batters with him. He scored runs while being with bowlers. He took the risk of playing all balls and asked the batter at the other end to stay with him. Avesh played only three balls in four to five overs. He showed the focus and confidence that he would finish the game,” he said.
LSG will next take on the Gujarat Titans at Lucknow on Sunday.
