Pakistan’s talismanic spinner Usman Tariq has vowed that his team will put on a better show if they next meet India in the ongoing T20 World Cup. India registered a comprehensive 61-run win against Pakistan at the R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo on Sunday.
Pakistan were not able to even challenge the potent Indian team as they were bowled out for 114 runs after Suryakumar Yadav’s team posted an above-par score of 175 runs on the board. Ishan Kishan was the difference between the two teams as he scored a blistering knock of 77 runs off just 40 balls.
After Pakistan’s loss, many experts questioned skipper Salman Ali Agha’s decision to bowl first after winning the toss.
“Lifting the team is only difficult when you don’t work on your mistakes committed in the last game,” Tariq told reporters. “We have worked on our mistakes so I think it will not be a tough task. We have resolved not to commit the same mistakes again… We can feel their (fans’) disappointment because the match is watched by the whole nation. So we feel their pain but I am sure when we play them (India) next we will put up a better show,” he said.
The mystery spinner said controlling the pressure is part of their job and they would look to bounce back strongly.
“Feeling pressure is normal. Controlling pressure is part of the job, and we have worked on that. But right now, there is no pressure. I didn’t feel that the team was under pressure,” he said. “… Whoever we play we have the confidence to beat them and our goal is to play the final and win the cup which we will try our best to achieve.”
Meanwhile, Babar Azam was dismissed for a seven-ball five whereas Shaheen Shah Afridi conceded 31 runs in two overs he bowled against India.
“Both Azam and Shaheen have won many matches for Pakistan so if they did not perform well in one game we should not write them off,” Tariq said while defending the duo.
Pakistan will next take on Namibia at SSC, Colombo on Wednesday.
