India’s prodigy batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi continues to break records across all formats. Sooryavanshi is currently taking part in the Duleep Trophy, representing East Zone in the domestic red-ball tournament. East Zone is facing Central Zone in the semifinal at BCCI’s CoE in Bengaluru.

Central Zone was bowled out for 266 runs in the first innings after Mukesh Kumar and Abhijeet K Sarkar bagged three wickets apiece. In response, veteran batter Abhimanyu Easwaran and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi gave a solid start to East Zone.

The opening duo added 161 runs for the opening alliance, with Sooryavanshi scoring a fine knock of 92 runs off just 81 balls. This is Sooryavanshi’s highest first-class score and he became the youngest batter to score a fifty in Duleep Trophy at 15 years and 157 days.

Sooryavanshi broke a 57-year-old record of Laxman Singh, who had scored a fifty in the Duleep trophy, aged 16 years and 23 days in 1969.

Former Indian leg-spinner Piyush Chawla had also scored a fifty in the Duleep Trophy at the age of 16 years and 307 days. 

Meanwhile, despite a solid start given by the openers, East Zone was skittled out for 266 and thus scores were leveled after the end of the first innings. Abhimanyu Easwaran scored 69 runs but none of the other batters could even breach the 20-run mark.

Harsh Dubey scalped four wickets whereas Aryan Pandey and Yash Thakur took four wickets each.

On the other hand, Sooryavanshi had managed only eight runs off six balls in the quarterfinal clash against North East Zone. Thus, he was able to bounce back in form in the semifinal game.
