Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is known for his blistering batting but he can also be handy with the ball. The left-arm orthodox spinner showed that he can also provide crucial breakthroughs with the ball during the Duleep Trophy. 

While playing for East Zone, Sooryavanshi bagged two wickets in a single over. After East Zone registered a thumping win of an innings and 210 runs against North East Zone, Sooryavanshi revealed skipper Ishan Kishan felt he was taking a risk by bowling him but the former cheekingly said the latter didn’t know that he is a wicket-taker.

North East Zone was struggling at 72-5 after 25 overs in the second innings. Kishan decided to give the 26th over to Sooryavanshi, who struck in his second over, accounting for Kishan Lyngdoh and Imliwati Lemtur.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi said on BCCI Domestic X handle, “If you ask batters, they always enjoy bowling. A batter bowling or a bowler batting is enjoyable for the player. Wickets weren’t falling for the opposing team. Thus, I was asked to bowl two or three overs. Ishan bhaiya felt like he was taking a risk by giving me the ball. But he doesn’t know that I am a wicket-taker.”

The 15-year-old youngster added he wanted to bowl consistently at one spot and trouble the opposition batters.

“In my mind, I only thought that even if I take five wickets, I am only getting three overs to bowl. I tried to bowl as best as I could, in one spot, and to finish my spell. It was a lot of fun because batting didn’t go so well in the last match, so contributing to the team with the ball was fun. When a batter takes a wicket, there is no greater enjoyment than that,” said Suryavanshi (via the aforementioned source).

Sooryavanshi is currently batting unbeaten on 60 in the first innings of the Duleep Trophy semifinal against Central Zone. East Zone are 114-0 after Central Zone was bowled out for 266.
