Former Indian fast bowler Varun Aaron has termed the West Indies as dark horse ahead of the Super 8 stage of the ongoing T20 World Cup. The Windies won all of their group stage matches and they have been unbeaten so far in the tournament.

The West Indies defeated England, Italy, Scotland, and Nepal to top Group C and thus Shai Hope’s team has ticked the right boxes. Hope has led from the front, scoring 155 runs in four games, whereas Jason Holder and Shamar Joseph have snared seven wickets apiece. Furthermore, Shimron Hetmyer has scored 134 runs in four games of the tournament.

Moreover, Romario Shepherd has scalped six wickets in two innings, including a hat-trick.

Varun Aaron said on ESPN Cricinfo, “I think that one team which is for me seemingly that bogey team in this group is West Indies. Because if West Indies can hit their straps and can get going, they’ve got a very powerful batting line-up. With two quality left-arm spinners, I think they are just the dark horse in this group.”

Aaron reckons the fast bowler can be West Inides’ kryptonite in the ongoing T20I showpiece but he backed the team to qualify for the last four.

“I think the only chink in their armor is their fast bowling. If their fast bowling can come good, I see West Indies sealing a semi-final spot.”

West Indies had won all four of their matches comprehensively in the group stage and they would look to carry the good form in the Super 8 stage.

The Windies will begin their Super 8 campaign against Zimbabwe at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Monday.
