Former Indian fast bowler Varun Aaron reckons drop catches are India’s biggest concern while moving into the T20 World Cup 2026 Super 8 stage. Aaron highlighted that India is dropping two-three catches in every game.

It is a famous adage that catches win matches and dropped catches can be India’s Achilles Heel at crucial stages of a big game. While the dropped catches haven’t proved too costly so far, as India has won all of their four games, it is certainly a concern moving forward.

India dropped three catches against the Netherlands and they would want to pull up their socks in the Super 8 stage.

Varun Aaron said on ESPN Cricinfo, “Massive problem. India is by far the worst catching team in the last 12 months or maybe 18 months. Their catching percentage is below 70. Every match they drop at least 2-3 catches. I just hope that they don’t drop important catches come the Super 8 and the semifinals.”

On the other hand, Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav admitted his team has ticked all the right boxes in the tournament so far but they are learning at the same time.

He said in the post-match presentation, “You can say that we have ticked almost all the boxes, but even if you win, you learn something out of it. And we have learned a few areas. We’ll go back to the rooms, have a day off tomorrow, and have a chat on that.”

SKY added it is crucial for the batters to understand the match situation and play accordingly after a 17-run win against the Netherlands.

He concluded, “We might be in a similar situation on the next day also. We might get a slow start, but it’s very important for all the batters to understand what the responsibility is, how the wicket is playing in the middle overs.”

India will take on South Africa in their opening game of the Super 8 stage at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, on Sunday.
