India’s mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy has rated Kuldeep Yadav as one of the best spinners in the world after the Asia Cup triumph. India defeated Pakistan by five wickets in the continental tournament’s final at Dubai on Sunday.
Kuldeep Yadav was the star of the tournament as he bagged 17 wickets in seven matches at an average of 9.29 and economy rate of 6.28. He ended the competition as the leading wicket-taker and was awarded the MVP of the Asia Cup.
The wrist spinner returned with impressive figures of 4-30 in his quota of four overs in the final against Pakistan and played a key role in skittling Pakistan at 146.
Varun Chakravarthy said while talking to the broadcasters after the win, “I feel great. Definitely, at that time, I was going for the wickets, and Fakhar and Farhan were going well. And yes, I had done some plans, and it worked out in the way. But Kuldeep came and finished, yeah. It gave me memories of KKR when we were playing together. And he’s always a star. He’s one of the best spinners, yeah.”
Chakravarthy returned with figures of 2-30 in his quota of four overs and delivered for the team. The mystery spinner scalped seven wickets in six matches of the tournament.
On the other hand, Kuldeep said it is a luxury to bowl in tandem with Axar Patel and Varun Chakravarthy.
He said, “It’s very important to bowl accurately in the middle overs. And of course, we, Varun and Axar, playing together, obviously, it’s a luxury to have.”
Indian spinners were right on the money throughout the tournament and played a key role in the success of the team.
