Former Pakistan batsman Ramiz Raja stated that the Indian captain Virat Kohli knows what he needs to do and he will succeed in the World Test Championship final against New Zealand.
Kohli had scored his last International hundred in 2019 in the pink-ball Test match against Bangladesh at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
Since then he hasn’t been able to get to the three-digit mark in International cricket and he will look to bring his best in the WTC final against New Zealand. Raja feels Kohli is playing across the line and if he tries to play straight and then tries to flick the ball towards the leg-side, he would be in a better position.
“What I have seen in his batting off late, he has been playing across the line towards the leg side, breaking his wrist. If he maintains his position and plays straight and then plays his flicks, then it won’t be a problem anymore. However, he knows what he needs to do. So, there is nothing to worry about,” Raja said on India News Sports.
“Sometimes you think too much and put yourself under pressure of not getting runs or centuries. As long as he plays the first 20-25 overs straight and doesn’t break his wrist very much, he can succeed in this [WTC Final] Test match,” he added.
Kohli is going to play a crucial role in the World Test Championship final against New Zealand not only as a batsman but also as a leader of the team. Kohli is India’s best batsman and he had an amazing tour of England back in 2018.
The talisman had scored 593 runs in five Test matches against England in the previous tour and he will look to deliver the goods in the English conditions. Kohli is optimistic of doing well in England and stated that they will play without any pressure and will enjoy themselves in the WTC final.
The WTC final will take place at the Ageas Bowl, Southampton from June 18.
