Virat Kohli says broadcast show should talk about the game, not about what he ate

    March 17, 2025

India’s veteran batter Virat Kohli said the broadcast shows in India should focus on talking about the game and not delve into off-the-field things. Kohli feels when the broadcasters talk about what he ate yesterday in lunch or what is his favorite Chole Bhature’s place in Delhi, it becomes irrelevant.

The talisman said India is on the right track to savor more success in the sports field but the fans play a key role in the upliftment of the game. Ergo, it is everybody’s responsibility to perform their respective role with integrity.

Speaking to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Innovation Lab Indian Sports Summit, Virat Kohli said, “We have the vision. We have the groundwork happening today. It should be a collective responsibility of everyone involved. It’s not just about the infrastructure or the people who infuse the money. It’s also about the people who watch.

“We need education. A broadcast show needs to talk about the game and not what I ate yesterday for lunch or my favorite chole-bhature place in Delhi. You can’t have that in cricket matches. Rather, you could talk about what an athlete is going through,” the 36-year-old went on to add.

On the other hand, Virat Kohli said the family’s support is paramount to the athlete’s success as the members make all the sacrifices.

“It is very difficult to explain to people how grounding it is to come back to your family every time you have something intense happening on the outside. I don’t think people have an understanding of what value it brings. I feel quite disappointed about that. People who have no control over what is going on are kind of brought into conversations and put out in the forefront. Maybe they need to be kept away.”

Recently, BCCI has barred family members from traveling with players on foreign tours. It has been decided that the family would stay with players for only two weeks if the overseas tour spans more than 45 days.

RCB will begin their IPL 2025 campaign against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on March 22.
