India’s wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik has termed Virat Kohli’s side as the best Indian Test team ever for the country.
The Indian team has been the most consistent team in the red-ball version and they have produced the results in the overseas conditions.
India recently won the historic Test series in Australia despite being the odds against them. Virat Kohli’s team is currently the number one Test team in the ICC Test rankings and they have proved their mettle in all the conditions.
In fact, India has ranked at the numero uno position in the ICC Test rankings in the last five years.
Thus, the Indian team has come up with consistent performances. Moreover, they were the best Test team of the World Test Championship cycle as they had won 12 out of their 17 matches and had topped the points table with a winning percentage of 72.2.
Karthik added that the current Indian team is the most versatile in terms of batting and bowling. India has a potent bench and the same was evident on the tour of Australia. Furthermore, India has one of the best pace batteries in the world.
“This is probably the best indian team that has even been out in the park. I haven’t seen Ajit Wadekar’s 1971 team but I do think this is one of the most versatile, it’s got the most number of options in terms of bowling and batting,” Karthik told Sports Today.
“I think this is probably the strongest Test team from the time they started playing. There are some terrific fast bowlers, world-class spinners, a high-class batting line-up and an all-rounder who gives flexibility to play an extra batter or a bowler. This is probably the best Indian team that has played. Rightfully so, they are playing the World Test Championship final,” he added.
India will look to come up with a complete performance in the World Test Championship final against New Zealand. The Virat Kohli-led team will need to hit the ground running as they recently arrived in England. The final will take place at Ageas Bowl, Southampton from June 18.
