Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag slammed Gujarat Titans for their dismal performance after they suffered a 92-run loss against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the first qualifier at Dharamshala on Tuesday.
GT bowlers could not hit the right areas and they were taken to the cleaners, especially by Rajat Patidar. Barring Rashid Khan and Jason Holder, all the GT bowlers conceded their runs at an economy rate of more than 13.
Furthermore, GT was bowled out for 162 as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Barring Rahul Tewatia, who scored 68 runs off 43 balls, none of the other GT batters could show much resistance with the bat.
“Nothing went right for GT, and everything went right for RCB. GT just won the toss and did not do anything else. The cricket they played was very, very, poor. The sooner they forget this and move on, the better it will be for them. Wickets were coming every one or two overs. If Sai Sudharsan had not been hit wicket, then he could have maintained the momentum for GT. After that, everything changed,” Virender Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.
Sehwag, on the other hand, praised RCB for their impressive performance with both bat and ball against GT.
“It did not seem that RCB made a mistake anywhere in the game, not even a dropped catch or a misfield; nothing like that happened. What could be better than this when you are playing as a team? They have played like champions this whole season, not once did it seem that RCB might slip below the top four, or that they might not qualify. It would have been better if the match had gotten over quickly, but it was still fun,” Sehwag said.
RCB was able to dominate from the get-go whereas GT were not good enough on the day.
