Mumbai Indians talisman batsman Suryakumar Yadav has admitted that he was happy when Virat Kohli sledged him during the Indian Premier League 2020.
Yadav stated that it showed he was a crucial wicket for RCB and he did hold the key during the run-chase.
Virat Kohli is known to take the bull by its horns and he tried to get under the skin of Suryakumar Yadav when Mumbai Indians were chasing a target of 165 runs during IPL 2020. However, Yadav was unperturbed by the same and helped his team get over the line. The right-hander was able to keep his calm and showed great maturity in the run-chase.
Yadav was a man on mission that day as he scored 79 runs from 43 balls with the help of 11 fours and three sixes. The right-hander was at his best in IPL 2020 as he scored a total of 480 in 15 innings at an average of 40 and a strike rate of 145.01.
“It’s not just me, he goes hard at any batsman batting against him. I was happy that he sledged me. It means even Kohli knew that if I bat on, we will win the match and if they got my wicket, then maybe they could slow us down and create a chance to win,” Suryakumar said during an Instagram live session with Mumbai Indians.
“I am a cool and calm customer on the pitch, so I don’t get into these rivalries. But there was that moment in Abu Dhabi, so I guess that can go down as one,” he added.
Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav made his T20I debut against England earlier this year. The right-hander from Mumbai didn’t get a chance to bat in his debut match but he scored a fine fifty in his debut batting innings for the national team. Yadav was able to hit the ground running and took the attack against the English bowlers.
The 30-year old has been a consistent performer in the domestic circuit and he is expected to be part of the limited overs team for the tour of Sri Lanka. Yadav is also expected to be part of India’s T20 World Cup squad.
