Former Indian Test opener Wasim Jaffer showered praise on KL Rahul after he scored a magnum opus knock against Punjab Kings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on Saturday. The flamboyant batter scored 152 runs off just 67 balls as he scored 16 fours and nine sixes in his blistering knock.
Rahul added 220 runs off just 95 balls with Nitish Rana, who scored a fine knock of 91 runs off 44 balls, for the second wicket.
Thus, the duo played an instrumental role in helping DC post a mammoth total of 264 runs on the board. However, their efforts went in vain as PBKS won comprehensively by six wickets.
Jaffer said one has to feel bad for KL Rahul and Delhi Capitals as 264 is mostly a winning score in a Twenty20 game.
Wasim Jaffer said on his YouTube Channel, “KL Rahul, you know, is an outstanding player, and scoring 150 runs on any pitch in T20 cricket is an amazing achievement. So let’s not downplay his innings, but 268 runs feels like you’ve almost won the match, around 80% in your favor. You really feel sad for him and for the Delhi Capitals. Nine times out of 10, you win the match after putting up such a big total, but unfortunately Delhi couldn’t win. It must have been a huge shock for them to lose despite scoring so many runs.”
Jaffer praised Rahul for his consistent performances in the IPL. The DC opener has scored 357 runs in seven matches of IPL 2026 at an average of 59.50 and a strike rate of 187.89.
He added, “So, hats off to KL Rahul, he has been a consistent performer wherever he has played, for whichever franchise. Sometimes he gets unnecessarily criticized, that perception has kind of formed around him, but he has been an outstanding performer. Whether you talk about Test cricket or ODIs, he has played some amazing knocks. At times, he ends up being a victim of criticism, but today was a day when he should have been on the winning side. However, Punjab Kings completely spoiled the party.”
Delhi Capitals will next take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi, on Monday.
