Former Indian Test opener Wasim Jaffer heaped praise on Chennai Super Kings fast bowler Anshul Kamboj after CSK registered a comprehensive eight-wicket win against Mumbai Indians at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, on Saturday. Jaffer highlighted that a lot of cricket boffins had criticised Anshul Kamboj regarding his pace in a solitary Test match he played.
Kamboj returned with impressive figures of 3-32 in his quota of four overs and thus played a key role in restricting MI to 159-7. The right-arm pacer from Haryana has scalped 17 wickets in nine matches at an average of 15.82 and an economy rate of 8.49 in this season of the IPL. Thus, he is the joint highest wicket-taker along with RCB’s pack leader Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
“He is a brilliant bowler in red-ball cricket in domestic cricket. His pace was criticised in the Test he played, but he was never a 140 bowler. His seam presentation is brilliant and bowls in good areas. It looks like he does not try many things and keeps it simple. He has dismissed big batters, and it is a creditable performance. He is not known for white-ball but he has bowled well this season,” Jaffer said on his YouTube channel.
Jaffer praised CSK for coming up with a collective effort and said their have a good chance of qualifying for the playoffs if they keep the winning impetus.
“It was a complete performance from CSK. They bowled well. Spinners are doing well too. Overall, I feel they came to form a little late but it is a very good team. Kartik Sharma also played well and this is why he was paid a lot as well. He was fearless and the way he batted, all in all, the team is looking set. Bowling is clicking, Gaikwad is also in form. From here, if things go well and they keep winning, they will get momentum, and you never know. The door is not shut,” he stated.
Chennai Super Kings will next take on Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi, on Tuesday.
