Former Indian Test opener Wasim Jaffer has picked India’s playing XI for the 2027 ODI World Cup. Jaffer included Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj in his final XI for the ODI showpiece. 

The former Indian cricketer picked Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill as openers. There were recent reports that Rohit could play his last ODI at Lord’s against England but the veteran has denied such rumors.

Virat Kohli takes his usual number three position in Jaffer’s team. Shreyas Iyer, India’s ODI vice-captain, has been backed to play at his position of number four.

KL Rahul, who is going to keep wickets, bats at number five for the former domestic giant. Hardik Pandya is the seam-bowling all-rounder in the team whereas Axar Patel is the spin-bowling all-rounder in Jaffer’s side. Kuldeep Yadav, who hasn’t been getting his opportunities in the recent past, is the main spinner.

Jasprit Bumrah will lead the pace attack whereas Shami and Siraj will partner him for Jaffer.

Recently, Jaffer backed Rohit Sharma to play in the 2027 World Cup after he scored a magnificent knock of 138 runs off 110 balls in the final ODI against England.

“It was a magnificent innings. The way he paced his knock was outstanding. Perhaps if he had stayed at the crease for another five or six overs, India could have won that match. But this is what Rohit Sharma brings to the table. I feel that a player of his stature should not be questioned. If he is motivated and wants to play in the 2027 World Cup, then I think we need to allow him to do that because he knows how to perform in big pressure situations, and he proved it once again. This is the Rohit Sharma we want for the 2027 World Cup,” he had said on YouTube Channel.
