Lucknow Super Giants have had a pretty great start to their maiden Indian Premier League captain. Led by KL Rahul, they have picked up five wins in seven games so far in IPL 2022 and have been one of the most impressive sides.
Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer has credited captain KL Rahul for improving his leadership qualities. The right-handed opening batter had also led Punjab Kings in the last two seasons of the IPL before moving to Lucknow ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction.
Jaffer feels that Royal Challengers Bangalore would’ve had KL Rahul in their sights after Virat Kohli decided to relinquish his captaincy following IPL 2021. Rahul is also from Bengaluru and he would’ve brought a different flavour to the side.
During his stint as PBKS batting coach, Wasim Jaffer personally witnessed the growth of KL Rahul as a batter who scored runs against every side. He has become one of the most bankable players in the league with the bat in hand. However, it is his improvement in captaincy which could prove to be excellent news for selectors and fans, feels Jaffer.
“I thought he might go to RCB, as he is a Bangalore boy, and brings another flavour. Somebody of their own leading the franchise helps to make a huge fan base. I had been involved with the Punjab team in the last two years, and think he’s a phenomenal player and has scored runs against all the teams. He is a good player across all the formats and has matured a lot. His captainship is also getting better with time, which is great for the selectors and the Indian cricket fans as well,” said Wasim Jaffer on Sky247.net presents ‘Not Just Cricket Show.’
Wasim Jaffer also shed light on how the number three batting slot in LSG has been a bit of a rolling chair. Manish Pandey, Krishnappa Gowtham, Jason Holder have all been tried in that position for little to no success. The former Indian opener feels Marcus Stoinis should be utilized as a finisher if Manish Pandey arrives as a number three.
