Former Indian Test opener Wasim Jaffer believes Australia will be India’s biggest threat in the ongoing T20 World Cup. India lost the World Test Championship 2023 final against Australia and they also could not get over the line against the Aussies in the summit clash of the ODI World Cup 2023 after thoroughly dominating the tournament.
Australia is known to bring their best in the big matches of the major ICC events and they are always a dangerous team. The Mitchell Marsh-led team has also qualified for the Super 8 stage of the ongoing T20I showpiece.
Similarly, India has also sealed their place in the Super 8 after winning their first three matches of the tournament. India and Australia will take on each other on 24th June in the Super 8 stage.
Wasim Jaffer said on his YouTube Channel, “We lost the WTC final as well as the World Cup final to Australia. And the way they are playing in this T20 World Cup, they are the one team that India need to be wary about. They have the fast bowlers, all-rounders and Adam Zampa is bowling well. The batting is also explosive.”
On the other hand, Jaffer reckons that the captaincy plays a crucial role in the success of the team, especially in the T20I format, where the captain should be thinking on his feet.
Jaffer said, “Absolutely not (on whether captaincy in T20 cricket is overrated). In fact, it is so crucial. If you see in the IPL, the teams that have won multiple titles have had great captains like MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, David Warner and Gautam Gambhir. It is a fast game and you have to decide quickly. It is one of the most important things in this format.”
India will next take on Canada at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill, Florida on Saturday.
