Former Indian opener Krishmachari Srikkanth has predicted that Arshdeep Singh will be the future World no.1 in the ICC T20I rankings. Singh has so far only played four T20I matches but he has been making the right noises with his impressive performances.
The left-arm had impressed in the Tata IPL 2022 while playing for Punjab Kings. The youngster scalped 10 wickets in 14 matches and bowled with a parsiminious economy rate of 7.70. Singh was right on the money in the death overs and impressed with his ability to nail the yorkers.
After his impressive show in the IPL, Singh received a maiden call-up for the series against South Africa but he didn’t get a chance to make his debut. Singh finally received his maiden cap in the first T20I against England and took two wickets in the game. The young gun became the third Indian bowler to bowl a maiden on his T20I debut after Jhulan Goswami and Ajit Agarkar.
Singh has scalped six wickets in four matches and he has bowled with an impressive economy rate of 6.52. The 23-year-old has impressed with his death bowling and he is going to hold the key for the Indian team.
Srikkanth also urged his former teammate, Chetan Sharma, who is currently India’s chief selector, to pick Singh in the T20 World Cup squad.
“He will be the future world no.1 in T20Is. He is simply outstanding. Arshdeep Singh! Make a note of it. He will be in the T20 World Cup team. Come on Chetu, please take his name also,” Srikkanth said while talking to Fancode.
Singh will look to continue his good show in the upcoming matches and he must have grown in confidence after his impressive performance. The left-arm pacer returned with figures of 1-33 in his quota of four overs in the third T20I against West Indies. Singh had bowled the difficult overs in the PowerPlay and also in the death and thus he was able to deliver the goods for the team.
The fourth T20I between India and the West Indies will be played in Florida on Saturday.
