India’s former batter Sanjay Manjrekar was full of praise for the Indian team after they clinched the T20I series against West Indies by 4-1. India won the fifth T20I by a gargantuan margin of 88 runs to continue their domination in the series.
The visitors had earlier won the ODI series by 3-0. In fact, India dominated the West Indies without players like Jasprit Bumrah and Virat Kohli, who both were rested for the tour.
The tourists were able to tick the right boxes as a unit and Rohit Sharma was able to get the best out of his players. Arshdeep Singh scalped seven wickets in five T20I matches and the youngster was awarded the Player of the Series for his fine performance in the T20I series.
Sanjay Manjrekar said while talking to Sports 18 show, ‘Sports over the top’, “Let’s be nice to the West Indies. They are good people to hang with and stuff like that. No credit can be taken away from India for these wins. West Indies in T20 cricket are no minnows or rollovers.”
“So India’s win and the way they have won in the five T20s is something to be proud of. There were various permutations and combinations. India didn’t play a single wrist-spinner in the first three T20Is and then they unloaded two wrist-spinners in the last two.”
Meanwhile, India has given ample opportunities to young players in the recent past, which has helped them strengthen their bench strength. Manjrekar reckons it puts India in a great situation as whatever they have tried has worked wonders for them.
“Opener Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan comes in. So they have tried everything and everything has worked. So this is a great situation to be in. West Indies – you will see in the T20 World Cup, they will have some good performances against the other teams. So well done to India.”
India will now take on a three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe, in which Shikhar Dhawan will lead the young troops. Subsequently, India will take part in the Asia Cup and will open its campaign against Pakistan in Dubai on 28th August.
