Indian opener Suryakumar Yadav was delighted after he played a match-winning knock of 76 runs off just 44 balls in the third T20I against West Indies at the Warner Park, Basseterre, Trinidad on Tuesday. Yadav said he is really happy with the way how things went.
West Indies posted a fighting score of 164 runs on the board after they were put into bat by Rohit Sharma. Kyle Mayers was the top-performer for the Windies as the left-hander scored a fine knock of 73 runs.
On the other hand, Hardik Pandya bowled a tight spell as he conceded only 19 runs in his four overs. Furthermore, Ravichandran Ashwin gave away only 26 runs in his quota of four overs.
Meanwhile, India suffered an early blow as Rohit Sharma decided to retire hurt after back spasm. However, Suryakumar Yadav was able to hit the ground running and as he mostly does, scored all around the ground. The right-hander scored eight fours and four sixes in his match-winning knock as he batted at the top of his game.
SKY and Shreyas Iyer added 86 runs together with the latter playing an aggressive role. Yadav was able to take the attack against the West Indies pacers and scored his runs at a brisk pace.
The 31-year-old has been in good form in the recent past and he was able to grab his opportunity while opening the innings.
Suryakumar Yadav was awarded the Player of the Match and he said in the post-match presentation, “Really happy with the way things went. Was important for someone to bat 15-17 overs after Rohit went back inside. We saw yesterday what happened in the second innings. Was important for someone to bat deep and win the game, that’s what I’ve focussed on. Just backed myself and enjoying it.”
Meanwhile, India’s run-chase of 165 runs is the highest at the Basseterre in T20Is and a lot of credit goes to Suryakumar Yadav for playing a superb knock.
India were skittled out for only 138 runs in the second game and it was important for them to come up with a better batting show in the third match. The visitors were able to do that and thus they have taken a 2-1 series lead.
The fourth T20I will be played in Florida on Saturday.
