WI vs IND 2022: Was very disappointed with how I got out in the first two ODIs – Shubman Gill

Indian opener Shuman Gill admitted that he was very disappointed with the way he got out in the first two ODIs against the West Indies. Gill was run out in the first game after scoring a fine fifty. Subsequently, he tried to play a scoop shot over the wicket-keeper but ended up lofting it back to the bowler after getting off to a start.

However, Gill was able to make amends in the third game as he scored a fine knock of unbeaten 98 runs. The match was reduced to 40 overs after the first rain break and Gill would have loved to get to his maiden ODI hundred.

Gill added 113 runs with Shikhar Dhawan to give a perfect platform to his team. India could have even got a bigger score if the rain had not played a killjoy in the first innings.

Shubman Gill was awarded the Player of the Match for his fine knock. Furthermore, he was awarded the Player of the Series for scoring 205 runs in three matches at an average of 102.50 and a strike rate of 102.50.

Gill said in the post-match presentation, “Was hoping to get a hundred, but that (rain) was not under my control. Was very disappointed with how I got out in the first two ODIs. I tried to play according to the ball and let my instincts take over. I wanted only one more over, was hoping for that. The wicket played fantastically in all three games. The ball was gripping a bit after 30 overs. Happy with my performance.”

Moreover, Gill joined the likes of Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, Kris Srikkanth, and Virender Sehwag as Indian batters who remained unbeaten in the 90s in an ODI game.

Gill will look to continue his good form in the upcoming matches but he is not part of the T20I squad against the West Indies.

The first T20I between West Indies and India will take at the Brian Lara Stadium, Trinidad on Friday.
