Indian opener Shubman Gill feels he wasn’t doing much wrong in the first three games after the visitors registered a seven-wicket win against the West Indies at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill, Florida on Saturday.
Gill returned with scores of 3,7, and 6 in the first three T20Is and there was some pressure piling on him to deliver the goods in the fourth game. The youngster proved his mettle as he scored a blistering knock of 77 runs off just 47 balls with the help of three fours and five sixes. The right-hander added 165 runs with Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored an unbeaten knock of 84 runs.
Gill batted at the top of his game in the penultimate game of the series and was delighted with his contribution in the run-chase of 179 runs.
Gill said in a video uploaded by BCCI, “When runs are hard to come by, you just need to focus on the basics and identify whether you have made any mistakes. I felt I wasn’t doing much wrong in the first three games. Just that sometimes it happens that a good shot goes straight into the hands of the fielder.”
Gill added: “You can’t think too much because such things happen when you try and keep on scoring all the time. Just remember what template worked for you.”
Gill added he wanted to capitalize on the good start and make the most of it. Jaiswal and Gill added 66 runs in the Powerplay overs and thus their run-chase was on the right track.
“I hadn’t even crossed the score of 10 in the first three games. The wicket was good so I had it in my mind that I need to capitalize on my start and break the back of the chase. Once we had a good powerplay, we knew that if we bat well for 4-5 more overs, the match will end then and there itself.”
“I love watching art because wherever you go, there’s a history attached to it. If you come to America and don’t go shopping then what did you actually do (laughs).”
The fifth and deciding T20I of the series will be played at the same venue of Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill, Florida on Sunday.
