India’s greenhorn batter Yashasvi Jaiswal was delighted after scoring a match-winning knock in the fourth T20I against the West Indies at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill, Florida on Saturday. The left-hander scored an unbeaten knock of 84 runs off just 51 balls to help India chase down 179 runs to level the series 2-2.
The visitors registered a convincing win of nine wickets after Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal added 165 runs for the opening alliance. Gill also got back to form after three ordinary matches as he scored a fine knock of 77 runs off 47 balls.
Meanwhile, Jaiswal said his intent is to always score runs and make the most of the field restrictions in the Powerplay overs. Jaiswal was able to get going from the word go and scored 11 fours and three maximums in his blistering innings.
Jaiswal was dismissed for a solitary run in his debut T20I game however he proved his mettle in his second game. Earlier, the left-hander had also made a bright start to his Test career against the West Indies, scoring a magnum opus knock of 171 runs on debut.
Jaiswal was awarded the Player of the Match for his whirlwind knock. The southpaw gave gratitude to the skipper Hardik Pandya and the team management for backing him and said he wants to play according to the team needs.
The youngster said in the post-match presentation, “It’s not easy, I am happy to go out there and express myself. I would like to thank the support staff and Hardik Bhai, they’ve shown faith. That shows so much impact on my mind. I try to play how the team needs and how I can express myself towards the plan. I try to score quickly, how many shots I can play in the powerplay and put my team in a nice shape. Reading the wicket, reading the situation, how I can take the game deep everything is important.”
He added, “My intent is always to score runs. I have played a lot of balls against them (Holder and McCoy in the IPL), which helped me to read them. It (partnership with Gill) was really amazing the way we were talking and the way we were taking singles and understanding each other. He batted really well. The way he was rotating the strike, it was really important to build the partnership. I want to thank everyone for coming here and supporting us in this heat. Thank you so much.”
The fifth and deciding T20I of the series will be played at the same venue of Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill, Florida on Sunday.
