India’s head coach Rahul Dravid recalled Virat Kohli’s debut series against the West Indies, which was played back in 2011. Kohli didn’t have a great debut against the Windies at Sabina Park as he returned with scores of 4 and 15. However, Dravid, who was a senior pro, saw some special talent in the youngster at that time.
In fact, Virat Kohli could only score 76 runs in five innings of his debut series. On the other hand, Rahul Dravid top-scored in the series with 251 runs in six innings at an average of 50.20.
Meanwhile, Kohli came into the Test team on the back of some impressive performances in the domestic circuit and ODI team. The talisman was eager to learn from veterans like Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, and MS Dhoni and always came up with the right questions.
Currently, Virat Kohli is the best batter in all three formats of the game and has come a long way in his career since then. The Delhi batter has scored 8479 runs in 109 Test matches at an average of 48.73. Kohli has scored 28 Test centuries and as many fifties in his glorious career.
“I remember Virat. It was his first Test series with the Indian team. He was this young kid who had done well in one-day cricket. He was just finding his feet in Test cricket. But you could see some special talent out there. You could see that he was going to be around there for a while.”
“How long you can never say, but he can be proud of his journey. I certainly never thought I would coach and come here so. It’s nice to see his journey, seen him go from being a young player on that trip to now being a senior player on the trip. It’s been great to see that journey,” said Dravid in a video uploaded on BCCI’s Twitter handle.
India will lock horns with West Indies in the first Test match at Windsor Park, Roseau, Dominica from Wednesday onwards. In fact, the last time India played against West Indies at Dominica, Virat Kohli, and Rahul Dravid were part of the playing XI.
