India’s wicket-keeper bat KL Rahul has showered praise on skipper Rohit Sharma after the team convincingly defeated Bangladesh by seven wickets at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune on Thursday. Rohit once again gave a positive start to his team, scoring a fine knock of 48 runs off just 40 balls with the help of seven fours and two sixes.
The talisman has adopted an aggressive approach in the ongoing ODI showpiece and he has been playing proper cricketing shots in the Powerplay overs to clear the infield. Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill added 88 runs off just 76 balls while chasing 257 and thus they gave another perfect start to their team.
Rohit is currently the highest run-getter of the ongoing ODI World Cup with 265 runs in four matches at an average of 66.25. However, more importantly, he has scored his runs at a strike rate of 137.31.
KL Rahul said on Star Sports, “When you have batters like that going really hard in the power play, then it just becomes a bit more easier for us in the middle order. Especially in the last few games when we have chased, I had to walk in with 60 runs and to get 60 runs in 151 160 balls so that he makes our job a bit easier and all the rest of the team going forward.”
Rahul continued to shower praise on Rohit Sharma for doing a consistent job for the team over the years. Rohit has been in sublime form in the ongoing World Cup and he is going to hold the key at the top of the order.
“I don’t think Rohit walks in with that mindset, that he wants to take bowlers down. He’s in good nick. He’s been a phenomenal player over the years and he knows how to pace his innings. And once he gets off a few boundaries, then he knows how to get on top of the bowlers and he’s just done that with proper cricket shots here. You don’t see him slogging the ball or you don’t see him innovating. You know, he plays proper cricket shots and stay balanced and hit the ball.”
Meanwhile, Shubman Gill scored 53 whereas Kohli also continued his purple patch to score an unbeaten 103 and helped India get over the line in the run-chase against the Tigers.
India will next take on New Zealand at the Himachal Pradesh Association Stadium, Dharamshala on Sunday.
