Former Indian all-rounder Sanjay Bangar has heaped praise on Rohit Sharma for backing the injured players. Rohit has been leading from the front and has got the best out of his players. Players like Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul, and Shreyas Iyer made their much-awaited return from injuries and the trio has played a key role in the success of the team.
Bumrah has scalped 15 wickets in eight matches and he has bowled with fire in the powerplay overs in the ongoing World Cup 2023. Furthermore, Rahul played a crucial knock of unbeaten 97 in the opening game against Australia.
Moreover, Shreyas Iyer has also impressed as he has scored 82 and 77 runs in the last two matches against Sri Lanka and South Africa respectively. Rahul and Iyer are averaging 61.25 and 48.83 respectively in the eight matches of the ODI showpiece.
Sanjay Bangar said on Star Sports, “I believe his USP is that he’s backed the players who were injured and low on confidence. Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah these 3 players were making comebacks after injury, and they were given the confidence that they were a part of this team, and that the team believes in their abilities, and that they would get opportunities.”
Former Indian batting coach compared Rohit Sharma’s captaincy with former skipper Sourav Ganguly, who is regarded as one of the best leaders of the team.
“When any captain says this, it’s above everything for a player. Another captain who did something similar is Saurav Ganguly, when he identified Harbhajan Singh, Virender Sehwag, Zaheer Khan and Ashish Nehra. So, this is one fantastic contribution by Rohit Sharma as a captain,” said Bangar.
Rohit Sharma has scored 442 runs in eight matches in the ongoing World Cup 2023 at an average of 55.25 and a strike rate of 122.78.
India will next take on the Netherlands at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on Sunday.
