India’s talismanic batter Virat Kohli is regarded as one of the best batters of the current era across formats. Kohli has shed light on his mindset, revealing he always wanted to improve every day, in every training session and in every game he played.
The veteran has all the hunger and has worked hard to reap rewards in his glorious career. Kohli has been in sensational form in the ongoing World Cup, scoring 354 runs in five matches at an impressive average of 118 and a strike rate of 90.54.
Kohli scored a match-winning knock of 85 runs in the opening game against Australia at Chennai and bailed the team out of the jail along with KL Rahul. The right-hander then scored a fine century against Bangladesh and followed it with another match-winning innings of 95 runs against New Zealand.
“I have always worked on how I can be better myself every day, every practice session, every year and every season. So, that is what has helped me play for this long and perform. I don’t think it is possible to perform consistently without having that mindset, because if performance is your goal, then one can get satisfied after a while, and stop working on their game,” he said to Star Sports.
Kohli added he looks to get better in his career and his focus is always on how he can make the team win from any given situation.
“It has always been my motto to chase betterment I would say, and not excellence, because I honestly don’t know what the definition of excellence is.”
“There is no limit to it, nor there is a set standard that when you reach here you have achieved excellence. So, I try to work towards betterment every day, so that would be a better word to use. And yes, performance becomes a by-product, because your mindset is how do I make the team win from here,” he concluded.
India will next take on reigning champions England at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Sunday.
