Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly has predicted Australia’s fast bowler Scott Boland will trouble India throughout the ongoing World Test Championship final at the Oval. Boland got the big wicket of in-form Shubman Gill, who decided to leave the ball, which jagged back into the stumps.
The right-arm pacer had figures of 1-29 in the 11 overs and bowled a total of four maidens on Thursday. Boland bowled a probing line and length to breathe down the neck of the Indian batters. The lanky pacer was right on the money and did a fantastic job for his team.
Boland consistently bowled in the corridor of uncertainty and he would look to carry the good show on Day three for Australia.
“You will get good deliveries upfront when you go to England, Australia or New Zealand. That was a good one against Rohit Sharma. He’s been out this way a few times with the ball coming back in to the right-hander. Shubman Gill did not align himself and the ball knocked the off-stump,” said Ganguly on Star Sports.
“Scott Boland will be a handy bowler on this wicket and he will trouble India right through this Test match. But you expect to see this in Test matches in these conditions,” added Ganguly.
Meanwhile, Australia posted a par score of 469 runs after Travis Head and Steve Smith scored 163 and 121 runs respectively to put their team in a commanding position.
“When you bat as a team, everybody won’t get runs. Some will get out early, there’ll be some who get in, but the people who get in must make sure that they make a big score, which Australia did with Travis Head and Steve Smith.”
On the other hand, India was reduced to 151-5 by Australia at stumps on Day two and the Rohit Sharma-led team is trailing by a huge margin of 318 runs. India’s top and middle order failed to deliver the goods as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals.
