Indian opener Shubman Gill feels switching from IPL to Test cricket should be a fun challenge for the World Test Championship final against Australia. Gill top-scored in IPL 2023 as he amassed 890 runs in 17 matches for Gujarat Titans and played a key role in taking the franchise to the final of the tournament.
The 23-year-old youngster will be looking to carry the same form in the all-important final against the Aussies. Meanwhile, Gill returned with scores of 17 and 4 in the rescheduled Test match against England in 2022.
Furthermore, Gill has scored 890 runs in Test cricket and he has been in top form in 2023 as he ticked all the right boxes in the year. The right-hander also scored a fine knock of 128 runs against Australia in the fourth Test match at Ahmedabad earlier in the year.
Gill will look to carry the IPL 2023 form and confidence into the WTC Final against Australia.
“It does give you a bit of confidence (from the IPL), but I feel this is a completely different scenario and a completely different game,” Gill told the ICC at The Oval.
“But that’s fun about it. Last week we were playing something completely different with a different atmosphere and that is the challenge and that is what is exciting about Test cricket,” he further added.
Meanwhile, India lost the World Test Championship final against New Zealand in 2021 by eight wickets. Gill added they will be looking to rectify the mistakes they made last time around and come up with a collective show.
“We have been talking about some of the things we have learned as a team and especially as a batting group from playing that match,” he said.
“Hopefully we will be able to overcome the mistakes we made last time,” Gill concluded.
Gill is going to hold the key for India at the top of the order along with skipper Rohit Sharma and they will be looking to give solid starts to their team. The WTC final will be played at the Oval from June 7.
