India’s former wicket-keeper batsman Parthiv Patel has heaped praise on New Zealand’s skipper Kane Williamson.
Patel stated that it is difficult to dismiss Kane Williamson as he has the right technique and defence, which is essential to succeed in the English conditions.
Kane Williamson is currently the number one batsman in the ICC Test rankings and he is going to be a big scalp for India in the upcoming World Test Championship final. Williamson has the skills to play a big knock for the Kiwis and he will be the biggest threat for the Indian team.
However, the New Zealand captain didn’t have a great first Test match against England at Lord’s as he was dismissed for 13 and 1 in each of the innings.
Patel added that the Indian bowlers will need to make sure they bowl in the right areas more often than not against Williamson to get the better of him.
“You have got to play under your eye line all the time, so to get him out, you’ve got to bowl really well against him.
You have to make sure you are hitting the areas more often than not. The ability which he has – with correct defense and is always decisive about his footwork,” Patel said on Star Sports Game Plan.
Williamson doesn’t have a great record while playing against India as he has scored 728 runs in 11 Test matches at a paltry average of 36.40, which is way below his career average of 53.60.
On the other hand, there is no doubt that New Zealand will be better prepared for the WTC final as they are playing two Test matches against England.
Meanwhile, India has arrived in England and they have started their training after undergoing three days of hard quarantine.
The WTC final will take place at Ageas Bowl, Southampton from June 18.
