Former New Zealand fast bowler Simon Doull has backed Virat Kohli to deliver the goods in the Border-Gavaskar trophy against Australia. Kohli has failed to live up to the lofty expectations in the ongoing Test series against New Zealand but Doull believes the superstar batter will turn a corner against the Aussies.
Virat Kohli has scored 2042 runs in 25 Test matches against Australia at an average of 47.48, including eight centuries. Kohli has even better numbers while playing in Australia as he has scored 1352 runs in 13 Test matches at an impressive average of 54.08, including six centuries.
Kohli has returned with scores of 0, 70, 1, and 17 against the Kiwis and he would look to be at his absolute best against Australia.
Doull reckons Kohli will not need to bother about the spin challenge while playing Downunder.
Simon Doull said while talking to PTI, “There are issues against spin but he is not the only one. You are not going to find those (spin-friendly) conditions in Australia. He (Kohli) had a great series Down Under. He plays quick bowling as well as he has for the last four or five years. So, I don’t think it’s a concern.”
Meanwhile, Doull reckons India will need to forget about the series against New Zealand and move on to give their best against India.
“They have to forget about this series. They could go out and win the third Test in Wankhede and go to Australia with a little bit more confidence. In Australia, quick bowlers will be required. India batters, I think, will be a lot better off on good surfaces. That’s what you tend to get in Australia,” the former Kiwi pacer said.
The opening Test match between India and Australia will be played at Perth from November 22 onwards.
