Former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has been appointed as Delhi Capitals’ assistant and batting coach ahead of IPL 2027. Singh has played a key role in guiding young Punjab players like Abhishek Sharma and Prabhsimran Singh on the right path but this is the first time he will be seen in an official role in the IPL.
Recently, Delhi Capitals had named former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly as their new head coach. Ganguly took over the reins from former coach Hemang Badani.
Meanwhile, Yuvraj played for Delhi Capitals (previously Delhi Daredevils) in 2015 after he was roped in for a whopping amount of INR 16 crores, making him the most expensive player in IPL auction history at that time.
Singh had played a key role in taking India to glory in the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup. The all-rounder scored 362 runs in the 2011 ODI showpiece and also took 15 wickets.
“We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Yuvi to the Delhi Capitals family,” said Parth Jindal, the franchise’s chairman. “Yuvi is one of Indian cricket’s greatest match-winners and someone who has played a pivotal role in mentoring many of the brightest young talents in Indian cricket today. His experience, winning mindset, and ability to connect with players will be invaluable to our squad.”
Yuvraj, meanwhile, expressed his delight after signing as batting coach of DC.
“I have an old association with the franchise and know the owners well, which makes this a special opportunity for me. I’m also looking forward to teaming up with Dada, this time as coaches,” he said. “Coaching is something I am truly passionate about, and I cannot wait to get started with this extremely talented squad.”
