Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh is set to begin a new chapter in his cricketing career after being appointed assistant and batting coach of Delhi Capitals (DC) for the 2027 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The franchise confirmed his appointment on Tuesday.
The move marks Yuvraj’s first official coaching assignment after years of mentoring young cricketers. It also brings the former World Cup winner back to a franchise he represented as a player in 2015.
Yuvraj, regarded as one of India’s finest limited-overs cricketers, brings enormous international experience to the Delhi Capitals coaching setup. During his decorated career, he represented India in 304 ODIs, 40 Tests and 58 T20Is, playing an important role in multiple World Cup triumphs.
His appointment also sets up an exciting reunion with former India captain Sourav Ganguly, who serves as Delhi Capitals’ head coach.
Ganguly handed Yuvraj his international debut in 2000, and the two have maintained a strong relationship over the years. They will now work together in a different capacity as they look to guide Delhi Capitals towards success.
Welcoming the former all-rounder, Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal expressed confidence that Yuvraj’s experience and leadership would benefit the squad.
“We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Yuvi to the Delhi Capitals family. Yuvi is one of Indian cricket’s greatest match-winners and someone who has played a pivotal role in mentoring many of the brightest young talents in Indian cricket today. His experience, winning mindset, and ability to connect with players will be invaluable to our squad,” Jindal said.
Yuvraj previously played for the Delhi franchise in 2015 after being purchased for a then-record Rs 16 crore at the IPL auction.
Expressing his excitement about returning, Yuvraj said:
“I am excited to begin a new chapter in my life with the Delhi Capitals. I have an old association with the franchise and know the owners well, which makes this a special opportunity for me. I’m also looking forward to teaming up with Dada, this time as coaches. Coaching is something I am truly passionate about, and I cannot wait to get started with this extremely talented squad. I’m sure it’s going to be an exciting journey for me, and I look forward to contributing to the team’s success.”
With Ganguly and Yuvraj joining forces, Delhi Capitals will hope their combined experience and understanding of the game can help strengthen the team’s batting department ahead of IPL 2027.
