Former Indian talismanic batter Yuvraj Singh recalled an incident when Navjot Singh Sidhu wrote him off when he was trying to rise through the ranks. Yuvraj was only 13-14 years old when Sidhu saw him bat in the nets but the former feels the latter didn’t have a proper look before giving his negative verdict.

The 2011 World Cup hero said he didn’t take it personally but revealed his father, Jograj Singh, took it personally. 

Yuvraj said on Serving it up with Sania, “Now, when I look back at it, I just think he didn’t have the time to have a proper look at me. He was just like being nice to my dad. Then obviously, he was playing for India at that time, so he probably would have said that. I was 13-14 at that time, just figuring out a sport. I don’t take it personally, but my father took it personally.”

On the other hand, Yuvraj also opened up on retirement decision. The former all-rounder said he wasn’t enjoying the game anymore and also felt he didn’t get the respect and support he deserved.

“I was not enjoying my game. I had a feeling that why am I playing cricket when I’m not enjoying it? I was not feeling supported. I was not feeling respected. And I felt, why do I need to do this when I don’t have this? Why am I lingering on to something that I’m not enjoying? Why do I need to play? To prove what? I can’t do more than this, mentally or physically, and it was hurting me. And that day I stopped, I was myself again.”

Yuvraj had a glorious career, especially in the white-ball formats and played a key role in taking India to glory in the 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup.
