Former Pakistan skipper Zaheer Abbas has backed Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to play in the 2027 ODI World Cup. The veteran duo has all the experience under their belt and they are going to hold the key in the ODI showpiece.

It was recently reported that Rohit could play his last ODI against England at Lord’s however the Indian opener scored a stunning knock of 138 runs off 110 balls to end all the speculations. 

On the other hand, Virat Kohli returned with scores of 5, 65 and 74 against England.

Abbas believes age should not be a factor in picking Rohit and Virat in India’s squad as long as they are fit and scoring runs consistently.

“Both are very, very good in terms of skill and, given their experience, I don’t see any reason why they should not play the World Cup. Age should not be a factor as long as they are fit and continue scoring runs,” Zaheer was quoted as saying by The Times of India.

The former Pakistan batter highlighted that Kohli is extremely fit whereas Rohit Sharma needs to pay a bit more attention to his fitness.

“Kohli is still supremely fit, while Rohit just needs to pay a little more attention to his fitness,” Zaheer observed.

Abbas added that Rohit was a treat to the eyes when he scored a splendid century against England in the third ODI at Lord’s.

“I watched Rohit score a hundred against England, and it is still a pleasure to watch him bat. He plays so effortlessly and with such sweet timing,” he said.

Rohit and Virat will be next seen in action in the home ODI series against the West Indies in September.
