Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was seemingly irked when he was asked about Virat Kohli’s lean overseas record. Rohit said as a team they don’t dwell too much into all these records and their primary focus is on how they can win a particular series or tournament.
Meanwhile, Kohli’s foreign numbers have come under scrutiny. The talisman finally ended his five-year century drought in overseas conditions when he scored a fine knock of 121 runs, which was his 500th International game for India, in the second Test match against West Indies at Queen’s Park, Trinidad. This was Kohli’s 76th International century across all formats.
Before this match, Kohli scored a century in alienate conditions in the MCG Test against Australia back in 2018. Rohit reiterated they don’t care about the outside noise and they are more focused on the team’s performance rather than individual milestones.
Rohit said ahead of the first ODI against the Windies, “I have answered this question multiple times. The outside noise, who has scored how much or has taken how many wickets or hasn’t taken… People sitting outside, when they talk, they don’t know what is happening inside.
“Inside talks remain inside and we want it to stay inside only. We don’t look into all those things. For us, it is important how we win a win or a series. Our focus is on that instead of who is talking what. This is something that I have said a number of times and in future as well I will say this only.”
Meanwhile, both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are on the cusp of grabbing personal landmarks. Rohit Sharma requires 175 runs to reach the milestone of 10000 runs in the ODI format and he will become the sixth Indian batter after Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, and MS Dhoni to get to the feat.
On the other hand, Virat Kohli needs 102 runs to get to the landmark of 13000 ODI runs and become the second Indian batter after Sachin Tendulkar to get to the record.
