Abhishek Singh Tekcham Joins Mohun Bagan in Big-Money Transfer from Punjab FC

Mohun Bagan Super Giant have completed the high-profile signing of India international Abhishek Singh Tekcham from Punjab FC, securing the talented full-back on a four-year deal ahead of the 2025–26 Indian Super League (ISL) season.

The 23-year-old, widely regarded as one of the most promising full-backs in the country, was the subject of intense interest from multiple ISL clubs. East Bengal and FC Goa were reportedly in the race, but both dropped out as the player’s transfer valuation soared past ₹6 crore, making it one of the biggest domestic moves of the summer window.

“I received offers from several big clubs in the country. But the reason I chose Mohun Bagan Super Giant is because it is the No. 1 club in the country. You win championships at Mohun Bagan. You win trophies. You chase dreams,” Abhishek said after completing the move.

He added, “Their continuous trophy-winning journey inspired me to join them. This club is always in the title race. I also dream of winning titles in the club’s jersey.”

Abhishek’s arrival comes at a key time for Mohun Bagan, who bid farewell to Ashique Kuruniyan during the off-season. With a vacancy at left wing-back, the versatile defender could fill the gap seamlessly. His ability to also operate on the right gives coach Antonio Habas more tactical flexibility, potentially setting up a competitive battle for the flank positions with established player Asish Rai.

Abhishek impressed last season with Punjab FC, making 22 ISL appearances. His defensive resilience and attacking runs caught the eye—he created eight chances, won 86 duels and eight aerial battles, and consistently troubled opposition wingers. His breakout form earned him a senior national team debut in March, where he helped India secure a 3–0 win over the Maldives. He followed it up by starting both matches in the June international window.

“While playing for Punjab, I won the I-League. But I have not won the premier competitions in the country — the ISL and the Shield — yet. I hope I’ll be able to fulfil that dream by playing for Mohun Bagan,” Abhishek said.

“Many top stars of Indian football are here. Training and playing with them will benefit me. Though I have played for India, I aim to play in the AFC Championship. That’s a dream I want to fulfil.”

With this signing, Mohun Bagan not only reinforce their defence but also send a strong message about their continued ambition to dominate Indian football both domestically and on the continental stage.
