India’s football coach Khalid Jamil has urged his players to play with an attacking mindset while hosting Singapore in a must-win clash of the AFC Asia Cup qualifiers. India recently played a 1-1 draw against Singapore while playing away and Jamil wants his boys to make the most of their home conditions in Goa on Tuesday.
The Blue Tigers are in third place in Group C with two draws and one loss whereas Singapore are in second position with one win and two draws.
Meanwhile, India had bounced back in the 90th minute against Singapore after Rahim Ali had scored his maiden International goal. Jamil’s men were also reduced to 10-man after Sandesh Jhingan had received a red card in the 47th minute.
“It’s an important game. We’re playing on our home ground. We must think positively and try to get a positive result,” Jamil said in the pre-match press conference.
“We must continue with how we played with ten men in the last game. But this time, we’ll have one more player (11v11). Since we’re playing on the home ground, it’ll be very good for us to start with an attacking mode,” he added.
On the other hand, Singapore’s interim head coach, Gavin Lee, wants his team to play without any pressure and deliver the goods.
“We often try to approach one game at a time. The last game is done, it’s over. The equation has changed a little bit,” he said.
“The only difference is that we’re not at home; that’s a slight advantage to India. We’ll go head down, do our best and try to get the three points home,” Lee further added.
