Arsenal’s goalkeeper David Raya has expressed his desire that he would love to play in La Liga one day. Raya’s contract with the Gunners expires in June 2028. He has played his entire professional career in England.
Raya has been superb for Arsenal in the last 12 months and has played an instrumental role in the club’s success.
Asked about the possibility of returning to Spain, which he left in 2012 at the age of 16 to join Blackburn, Raya told Marca: “Yes, I would love to. I would love to try out LaLiga. For now, I’m very happy here [at Arsenal], but I would certainly like to experience the Spanish league.
“I think it’s a very competitive league. Perhaps, in the future, I could play for a Spanish club. I’m Spanish, and I’d love to play there — that’s for sure.”
Raya won the Premier League Golden Glove for a third consecutive season.
He was part of Spain’s World Cup winning squad in the summer but did not play a single game as Unai Simón was team’s first-choice goalkeeper.
“I believe I’ve had a perfect year,” the Barcelona-born keeper said. “Perhaps the only thing missing was playing in the World Cup. Every year since I arrived at Arsenal, I’ve continued to improve and hopefully that will keep happening.
“But I truly believe this year, by winning the Premier League and playing a decisive role in the league, the Champions League, and the Community Shield… it has been my best season as a professional, being impactful and lifting trophies.”
Raya has high expectations for this season. “I want to win it all,” he said. “We want to establish ourselves as favorites, and that is our goal. Hopefully, this year we can improve upon last season by winning the Champions League, but there is still a long way to go before that happens.”
Arsenal will travel to Bayern Munich on Wednesday.
