Aston Villa have agreed a deal to sign West Ham United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka as Unai Emery continues to reshape his squad ahead of the new Premier League season.
The DR Congo right-back is set to move to Villa on an initial loan, with the agreement including an obligation to make the transfer permanent at the end of the campaign.
Wan-Bissaka has been given permission to travel to the Midlands to undergo a medical. The full financial details of the agreement have not been disclosed, although West Ham had previously been seeking a fee of £25m from clubs interested in signing the 28-year-old.
The defender has not featured in either of West Ham’s opening two Championship matches this season while negotiations over his future have continued.
His expected departure would add to a summer of significant transfer activity at West Ham. The club have already sold Mateus Fernandes to Tottenham for £85m, while Crysencio Summerville left for £60m. Captain Jarrod Bowen, however, has committed his future to the Hammers by signing a new contract.
Villa have also been heavily involved in the transfer market, with several arrivals and departures changing the shape of Emery’s squad.
Their biggest sale has been Morgan Rogers, who joined Chelsea for £117m. Those departures have helped Villa maintain the lowest net spend in the Premier League, at around £110m once player sales are taken into account.
Despite raising substantial funds, Villa have strengthened in several positions. Midfielders Johan Manzambi and Joao Gomes have joined the club, while Chelsea winger Alejandro Garnacho has arrived on loan with an obligation to buy.
Villa have also recruited highly rated young centre-back Modou Keba Cisse, with Wan-Bissaka now set to further reinforce their defensive options.
The club enter the new campaign after an impressive season under Emery, having finished fourth in the Premier League and won the Europa League. Those achievements secured Champions League football for Villa this season.
Their Premier League campaign begins away at Brighton on Sunday, with kick-off scheduled for 14:00 BST.
