I-League side East Bengal are set to secure the services of India striker Balwant Singh from India Super League side Atletico De Kolkota.
The Indian international, two-time winner of the India Super League, is out of contract after his two-year contract ended and will feature for the Red and golds in the 2020/2021 season.
The 33-year-old only teamed up with ATK in the 2018/2019 season, making 23 appearances in the Indian Super League with just two goals to show in that period.
Atletico De Kolkota finished second in the 2019-20 Indian Super League season with 34 points from 18 games played with 33 goals scored and 16 conceded.
The Red and golds went on to the India Super League playoffs beating Bengaluru 3-2 in the semi-finals before getting the better of Chennaiyin in the final with a 3-1 Win.
East Bengal sits second in the yet to be completed I-League standings with 23 points with 23 goals scored and 18 goals conceded, 16 points away from League winners Mohun Bagan.
The forward has been a journeyman across teams in India, and he started his professional career with JCT FC academy in 2008, where he was also a product of the club’s academy.
Furthermore, he moved to Salgaocar in 2011 before to Churchill Brothers two years later, where he spent a year before teaming up with Mohun Bagan before two seasons on loan at Chennaiyin, where he won the India Super League trophy once.
He spent the 2017 2018 season at Mumbai City FC. Still, he will be the first signing for the East Bengal team, albeit the 2019-20 I-League season is yet to be completed with four rounds of games still to be played with the all India Football Federation suspending all football in the country indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandemic.
