Bayern Munich are moving closer to securing Harry Kane’s long-term future after reaching an agreement in principle with the England captain over a new contract.
Sky Germany reported Sunday that Bayern and Kane have achieved a breakthrough in negotiations, with the striker expected to extend his deal through 2029. Final details still need to be resolved, and no date has been set for the contract to be signed.
Kane’s existing Bayern contract expires on June 30, 2027, meaning he would have entered the final months of his deal without an extension. The two sides have been discussing a renewal for months, with both publicly expressing their desire to continue together.
The remaining work concerns the finer points of the agreement.
Recent reporting has indicated that the length of the extension and clauses concerning a potential future departure have been among the issues under discussion. Kane’s existing agreement has included provisions connected to a possible return to the Premier League, with Tottenham retaining matching rights in certain circumstances.
Previous reports also showed that contract length had been a point requiring resolution. Bayern had been considering a two-year extension, while Kane’s side preferred three additional years. Sky Germany’s latest report indicates the proposed agreement would keep him in Munich until 2029.
The financial side of the negotiations is also understood to be largely settled, although reliable reports have not publicly disclosed the exact salary Kane would receive under the proposed new agreement.
Bayern’s determination to retain Kane comes after another prolific season from the striker.
The 33-year-old scored 61 goals in all competitions for Bayern during the 2025-26 campaign as the club won the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal double. He also claimed the European Golden Shoe for the second time in his career.
His performances have also placed him prominently in the race for the 2026 Ballon d’Or.
Bayern have publicly backed Kane’s candidacy despite also having Michael Olise, Luis Díaz and Dayot Upamecano among the nominees. The club produced a campaign supporting Kane, with teammates participating in promotional material explaining why they believe he deserves the award.
Bayern sporting director Max Eberl has also publicly supported Kane for the Ballon d’Or while describing the contract discussions between the club and the striker as extremely harmonious.
Kane himself confirmed in August that negotiations had progressed after holding his first meeting with Bayern over an extension. CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen had already said both sides were eager to reach an agreement.
The negotiations have now advanced significantly beyond those preliminary discussions.
Bayern and Kane have reached an agreement in principle, with the proposed contract expected to run until 2029. The final clauses and contractual details still need to be completed before the extension can become official.
