Brazil’s head coach Carlo Ancelotti has taken the blame on his shoulders for a 2-1 loss against Norway in the round of 16 clash at the FIFA World Cup. Erling Haaland scored a brace for Norway whereas Neymar scored a consolation goal from a spot kick.
The Italian manager admitted he made some changes which were not required and he thought they were not in control of the match, which he realised later was not true.
Ancelotti reckons they lost the game during the hydration break against the European country.
The former Real Madrid Manager told ESPN, “I think we lost the World Cup during the hydration break against Norway. Up to that point, we had the game under control. It’s true that Norway had more possession, but most of it was in their own half. They played the same way against England.”
He added, “My mistake was thinking we had lost control when we actually hadn’t. I made a few changes, and that’s when Erling Haaland scored. In a World Cup knockout match, conceding first makes it very difficult to come back. We had chances to recover, but it wasn’t enough.”
Meanwhile, Brazil will play three International friendlies in September and head coach Carlo Ancelotti revealed they would try out new players.
“We’re going to start putting together a new squad, scouting and trialling young players, but without letting go of some of the players who were with us at the World Cup and who still have a lot to offer the national team,” Ancelotti told the CBF.
Brazil would look to bounce back strongly after the World Cup disappointment.
